There is a reason why the game is as hard as it is. If i remember correctly DMC isnt a cakewalk. Is that realy the case? that so many people do not enjoy nioh because of the difficulty? or is it a minority? Single player hack and slash games tend to be hard. i tried several days, many times with no resultsįinished DS1 and 2 alone, but this boss, hino enma, made me left the game haha I dont remember if googled strategies or something I left the "offline" version cause of hino enma You do realise that "casual gamers" help fund the games you enjoy, right? Making games for a casual audience is one of its offsprings. There is simply no logic to the argument that allowing other players to make the game easier ruins it for harcode players who would still have the option to keep the game hard. But you could still be aweomse by beating Nioh in "legendary mode".

It seems to me that some of the push-back against calls for manual saves or a difficulty mode is more to do with individual bragging rights along the lines of "I beat Nioh - that makes me awesome". Why would having manual saves in Nioh with a "legendary" mode along the lines of the current checkpoint system ruin the game? They have a super-pro hard mode that removes manual saves, so you can only use annual saves at the end of a turn. Manual saves would be a catastrophy in a game like this. Why would a difficulty level in Nioh have ruined your fun? There should be a challenge, but that's normally controllable via a difficulty level. There's no reason all/most fans of that genre cannot enjoy Nioh.Īnd they are definatly not meant to be beaten by everyone. But Nioh is part of a genre (fantasy single-player/hack-and-slash) that includes games with difficulty modes and/or manual saves. Originally posted by vukotlak:Games arent meant to be enjoyed by everyone.įor example, it's not possible to please fans of all genres in the same game. The monetization of the gaming industry is a curse for every true gamer. As soon as you start to aim for a larger audience by tweaking certain game elements you start to mess up the game. Then design a game perfect for that audience and dont give a fk about the rest. I dislike games because they are too easy. And if people dislike it cause it is too hard then this game is simply not meant to be played by em. A game without it would be meaningless to those people. Some people get satisfaction when they overcome an obstacle. You can either design a game that everyone can beat because there is no real obstacle. And they are definatly not meant to be beaten by everyone. At least not this kind of games. Games arent meant to be enjoyed by everyone. Call them "casuals" or whatever, but it doesn't change reality. The result is that you can die repeatedly and be unable to progress. That wouldn't be a problem if you had manual saves, but you don't. The game is very unforgiving and you die a lot. In my view, it's the difficulty and the poor adaptation for keyboard and mouse. Originally posted by Sanjuro:First, you need to stop looking at how YOU see the game. But I'm not at all surprised that there are mixed reviews. I will struggle on for a while longer, and in some ways I don't mind that much, because I got this on sale and knew it would just be to tide me over until Seikoro comes out in the Spring.

I've played all sorts of games for a long time, and this is the first game I've considered throwing in the bin because the starting difficulty was too high and the lack of explanation of how to correct what I was doing wrong. I'm clearly not good at this game, but I don't think that's because I'm too stupid to learn. If the keyboard controllers were simpler/more intuitive, I think the game would be a bit simpler. I have rebound the keys, but even then I get annoying things happen like opening Steam's alt-mode whilst trying to do something else. Only after playing the magic 2 hours (no refund available) did I see reviews saying "it's a great game, but make sure you have a controller".

It also doesn't help that the publishers/devs couldn't be arsed to change the tips to the default PC keyboard options, as is the fact that the tutorial section is hidden after the starting area. Anyone should be able to pick up a game and be get to grips with it reasonably quickly, bar those unfortunates with significant learning difficulties. You can't expect people to know learn how to play a game by playing similar games first.
